Statvis Updates - October, 2023

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to take a minute to let you know about some updates we have made to the Statvis interface and tools recently.

Don't hesitate to reach out to us at hello@statvis if you have any questions, want a walk through of a particular feature, or have a suggestion for a future feature.

DATA VAULT

Upgrades have continually been made to Data Vault to make it an interactive data exploration hub. You will notice a number of changes.

MAP ICONS

A series of controls have been added and consolidated to the left side of the control bar above the map. Those icons will show/hide the following functions from left to right: legend, all sample locations labels, measurement tool, annotation tools, and data filtering options. Each will be described briefly in more detail bel

To free up map space the legend has been moved to the control bar above the map. You will also notice an addition to the legend of a grey color block with the description of “> 1x Guideline Non-Detect”. This applies when a detection limit is over the guideline for a parameter. It is not flagged as an exceedance because we don’t know if it is actually over the guideline or not but it is flagged because it may be over the guideline. This grey shading will also show up wherever data is shown and highlighted based on the applied guidelines (data vault table, table builder exports etc.

Show/Hide All Labels

The show hide all labels checkbox has been replaced with a speech bubble icon in the control bar.

Distance Measuring Tool

A measuring tool has been add to allow users to measure the distance between two points in meters. The measurement will show in the bottom left of the map next to the map zoom controls. Unlike annotations, these measurements are temporary and are cleared when the ruler tool is clicked again.

Annotations and Area Measurement

The annotations tool is great for knowledge transfer. It lets users add points, lines, or polygons to a drawing with or without a text label. These are saved with the site and are toggled on/off whenever the control is clicked. They can be deleted one by one by the user should they so desire. When a polygon is created or selected, the area of the polygon will also show in the bottom left corner of the map. This is great for calculating plume areas.

Filter Data

The large “Filter Data” button in the control bar has been replaced with a filter icon to consolidate the controls in one location and clean up the look of the interface. Functionality of the powerful instant dataset filters has not changed though!

PAH FINGERPRINTING – ALKYLATED FINGERPRINTING

PAH fingerprinting has been expanded to include alkylated PAH analysis. If this is an analysis you have used in the past you know what a game changer this tool will be. It allows you to compare your sample to a number of reference standards and label each sample with the reference sample it is most like or “Indeterminate”.

WATER MONITOR – PARAMETER FILTERING MOVED

Parameter filtering for water monitor has been moved out of the filter to the control bar. This makes it much quicker to explore data as you are always viewing one parameter at a time.
